The Society of Certified Public Accountants

The Society of Certified Public Accountants (SCPA) was set up in 2001 as a non-profit Society. The SCPA is entrusted with the responsibility of certification of CPAs in India through study and examinations. The objective of SCPA is to develop a new cadre of accounting professionals through a comprehensive and contemporary body of knowledge and a rigorous education and certification program titled the "MS (Accounting)" Program leading to the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation. The ICFAI University is responsible for organizing the training aspects of the MS (Accounting) Program including study and examinations, whereas SCPA is responsible for the overall growth and development of the CPA profession based on strong code of ethics and standards of professional practice.

Objectives

  • To promote efficiency and bring improvement in the contemporary practice of accounting among the persons engaged in the activity and maintain a central forum for these purposes.

  • To develop a body of knowledge about the subjects related to accounting and make it available for those seeking challenging careers in the era of globalization.

  • To promote and develop accounting education highlighting the emerging competencies, converging disciplines and expanding roles of the modern professional accountant.

  • To sponsor and support research activities in the field of accounting and allied areas.

  • To publish books, magazines, journals, articles, monographs and reports on topics of interest to the members and the students.

Global Affiliations

SCPA is in the process of developing a network of relationships with leading educational institutions and professional bodies across the world. It is seeking membership of The Institute of International Accounting Education and Research (IAAER), USA and American Accounting Association (AAA), USA.

Certification and Designation

The certification is modular. The successful students of the MS (Accounting) program will be awarded a certificate of pass for each level by the ICFAI University. Only those students who complete all the three levels successfully will be awarded the MS (Accounting) Degree from the ICFAI University and the designation of CPA will be conferred by the Society of Certified Public Accountants (SCPA) subject to fulfillment of the requisite criteria.

Code of Ethics

SCPA has developed a comprehensive code of ethics and standards of professional practice. All the members will be required to strictly adhere to the code of ethics and standards of professional practice as stipulated by SCPA from time to time.
